Jan Chair:
What chair is needed today?
Fall 2022
To answer this question, I explored the idea of furniture aiding in recovery, particularly pertinent as we navigated stringent COVID regulations. During my ideation, I drew inspiration from the Adirondack chair, historically used as a therapeutic tool for tuberculosis in the 19th century. Made to be "simple but comfortable," it aimed to "open your chest up." Adapting this idea for the insecure post-COVID environment, my aim was to fuse the concept of therapeutic aid with that of a throne. Beyond literally opening the chest, this design intended to revitalize it, or "pump your chest."
